The Activities of "Severance" during the Korean War

Abstract

|
On November 25, 2003, an interview on the subject of The Activities of "Severance" during the Korean War was held at Lee Samyeol´ s office. The participants included Lee Samyeol, the 48th graduation class of Severance Medical University, and Hwang Jongseop, the X-ray technician of Severance Hospital. At the meeting, two interviewees recollected the "Severance"´ s variations and activities caused by the Korean War. After the Korean War broke out, "Severance" moved Ito Geoje-do, Gyeonsangnam-do, in 1951. Building a "refugee" hospital in that island., "Severance" gave much effort to cure refugees. Until very recently, the residents in Geoje-do remembered and appreciated the medical services rendered by "Severance". In addition to Geoje-do, "Severance" during the Korean War established two more hospitals for curing civilian, soldiers and refugees; Cheorngdo, Gyeongsangnam-do and Wonju, Gangwon-do. Having suffered severe damage during the war, "Severance" was forced to relocate to another location Sinchon, where Yonsei University College of Medicine is presently located.
